Internet for food trucks

From the FAILOVER5 team at Twisted VoIP, Chandler, Arizona · Updated October 2026

Plenty of trucks run their card reader off someone's phone. It works until the phone takes a call, drifts out of range, overheats in the window or dies at the end of a long shift. Then the line at the window turns into a line at the ATM, if there is one.

A router built to stay put

A small cellular router mounts inside the truck, runs from the truck's power, and serves your card readers, POS tablet and kitchen printer over its own WiFi. Nobody has to think about it during service.

The Peplink MAX BR1 Mini 5G is the one we usually recommend for vehicles. It's $549, or bring your own router if you already have one.

Events, lots and festivals

Big crowds share the same cell towers, and networks slow down when thousands of phones are in one field. Pick the carrier that holds up best at the events you work most. Mounting the router high, away from the metal walls of the truck, helps too.

Suggested plan: 10 GB plan, $88/month

Card payments and orders use very little data. 10 GB covers most trucks; 20 GB if you run online ordering on a tablet all day.

Questions we hear from food trucks

Can I pause service in the off season?
Plans are month to month. Cancel when the season ends and start again in spring.
Will it work with Square, Toast Go and Clover?
Yes. Those devices just need WiFi, and the router provides it.

Does it pay for itself?

The 10 GB plan is $1,056 a year. It pays for itself if it saves about 70 orders a year.
