Backup internet for warehouses and distribution

From the FAILOVER5 team at Twisted VoIP, Chandler, Arizona · Updated October 2026

Carrier pickups happen at a set time whether the internet is up or not. If labels can't print and scanners can't confirm picks, orders miss the truck and customers get a delay email instead of a tracking number.

The shipping floor

  • Warehouse and inventory systems such as NetSuite, Fishbowl or your WMS
  • Handheld scanners that confirm picks in real time
  • Shipping labels from ShipStation or carrier software
  • Order imports from Shopify, Amazon and other channels
  • Time clocks and door access

Getting signal into a metal building

Warehouses are usually large metal boxes, which is the hardest building for cellular. An external antenna on the roof or an outside wall, cabled to the router, usually fixes it. Your existing WiFi inside the building doesn't change; only the connection out to the internet does.

Suggested plan: 20 GB plan, $123/month

Scanning and label traffic is light. 20 GB suits most small and mid-size operations; larger ones with more systems on the backup should look at 50 GB or more.

Questions we hear from warehouses and distribution

Could cellular be our main connection?
Yes, for sites where wired internet isn't available or would take months to install. Larger plans and T-Mobile Ultra 1200 suit that use.
Our ERP connects to partners by IP address. Will that work?
Choose a Verizon plan with a static IP, and your partners can allow that address too.

Does it pay for itself?

The 20 GB plan is $1,476 a year. It pays for itself if it saves about 67 worker hours a year.

Think about your last outage: how many people stood around on the floor, and for how long?
